Golden Edge of the Ocean – Sunset at Princetown, Great Ocean Road
Driving the Great Ocean Road is one of those journeys where every bend in the road promises another view worth stopping for. After a long afternoon of coastal exploration, I arrived in the small township of Princetown and stayed overnight, hoping that the evening light might reveal something special along the rugged Victorian coastline. As the day drew toward sunset, the sky began to glow with deep orange and golden hues, casting warm light across the ocean and the towering cliffs that frame this dramatic section of coastline.
Princetown, Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia
A dramatic golden sunset photographed from Princetown along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, with rugged cliffs, ocean spray, and white-capped waves across the Southern Ocean.
Looking out toward the open Southern Ocean, the wind that had been building throughout the afternoon was now sweeping across the water, creating rough seas with white caps scattered across the surface. From my vantage point on the cliff edge, the setting sun slipped slowly behind the rocky headland, illuminating the ocean spray and mist rising from the waves below. The haze drifting across the horizon softened the distant sea and sky, bathing everything in a rich palette of glowing yellows and oranges. It was one of those fleeting moments where the power of the ocean, the rugged coastline, and the warm light of sunset all come together to create a scene that feels both wild and serene along the Great Ocean Road.

Post-Processing Notes
The image was processed to emphasise the natural warmth of the sunset and the atmospheric haze created by ocean spray and sea mist. Subtle adjustments were applied to contrast, highlights, and colour balance to retain the rich golden tones while preserving detail in the cliffs and texture across the ocean surface.
