Rhodes After Dark - Series 2
Reflections After the Rain — Early Morning Light Beneath the Bridge
Following on from the first Rhodes After Dark collection, this second series continues the quiet exploration of Sydney’s waterfront in the stillness before the day begins. After significant overnight rain, the pathways and concrete beneath the bridge were scattered with puddles, turning the ground into a natural mirror for the vibrant lighting display that illuminates the structure at night. The colours—rich blues, purples, and warm ambers—spill across the wet surfaces, creating abstract reflections that shift gently with the slightest movement of water.
Walking toward the water’s edge in the early morning, the scene felt almost untouched. Only the occasional jogger or early walker passed through the space, their footsteps echoing softly under the bridge. The puddles left behind by the storm became small pools of light, capturing fragments of the glowing installation above and transforming an ordinary pathway into a canvas of colour and reflection.
Although the sky was still subdued in the early hour, the atmosphere carried the unmistakable feeling of a summer morning in Sydney. The air was warm, heavy with humidity, and the stillness hinted at the heat that would build throughout the day. Rhodes After Dark – Series 2 continues the visual story begun in the first series, revealing how rain, light, and quiet urban moments combine to create unexpected beauty in the city’s overlooked spaces.
